Welcome to CMAS - the Community Messaging and Alert Service. This system was born from a Community Fireguard Group in the township of Warrandyte, in Victoria, Australia, as a method of advising its members of impending bushfire danger. Where once we would use a 'Phone Tree' process of alerting our neighbours - something which could take up to 45 minutes, can now take place in under 1 minute - and importantly, retain the accuracy of the threat message.
The Service uses mobile phone SMS to issue and receive alerts. The alerts (or messages) are issued by designated people, be they authorised individuals, Country Fire Authority, or Police. This Services primary use is to alert people by small geographical areas of impending bushfire dangers, however, it can also be used by other Community Groups to advise venue changes, etc...
Once a Member of this Service, you can may be able to subscribe to other distribution groups on this Service.
